What a great campaign! I currently live in the United States where everything is open on Sundays and opening times of 24 hours are not unusual. While this is convenient for people who want to shop, I feel bad for the sales associates who have to work on Sundays or late at night. Life is stressful...

The european Sunday Alliance participates in the Warming up for the Citizens' Initiative

The Lisbon Treaty introduces a new form of public participation in European Union policy shaping, the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI). As required by the Treaty, on a proposal from the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council adopted a Regulation which defines the rules and procedure governing this new instrument (Regulation (EU) No. 211/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council 16 February 2011 on the citizens' initiative).

French trade unions win case against BRICORAMA

unknownFEC FO and the unions of employees and managers of commerce sector from Val d'Oise and from Paris referred the BRICORAMA case to the Pontoise Court. After this action, BRICORAMA was sentenced by the court to close 3 shops in Paris and 28 shops in Ile de France on Sundays. Otherwise Bricorama would be obliged to pay a fee of 30.000€ by day of misconduct.

French trade unions appeal against shopping Centre sunday opening

unknownFrench trade unions in the Commerce sector (SUD, CFTC, FO, CFE-CGC, CGT) appeal against a local Decree that authorises the opening of the shopping centre "Le Millénaire" every Sunday in Aubervilliers (France). Ségécé, the company which manages this shopping centre, is not in its first attempt to open shops 7/7 days. It tried without success with another shopping centre

"Belle Epine". French trade unions say they will fight against those pushing for more Sunday openings .

15 February 2012 : the national "Time Conference" of the German Sunday alliances was held in Fulda.

On the 15th February 2012, the German Sunday Alliance organised the 4th Time Conference in Fulda/Germany on Sunday protection. It gave all participants the opportunity to exchange and to share recent developments and to plan common activities in order to draw attention to the unique value of a work-free Sunday.

Churches and DGB Trade Union urge for better Sunday protection in NRW region

In the view of Advent sundays, Churches and the German Trade Union DGB in Nordrhein Westfalen region (Germany) call for a significant review of the law on shop opening hours. This law has led to dramatic weakening of  the protection of sunday and bank holidays, they say.

Bertrand Delanoë is supporting Work free Sunday as a principle, even if at the end the decision of opening a shop is taken depending on technical considerations like local needs.
